Is NewBeauty worth it for a plastic surgeon in 2026

Unsure a NewBeauty Top Doctor seal will pay off? See what NewBeauty sells surgeons, what it does not publish, and how it stacks up against RealSelf and Google.

Is NewBeauty worth it for a plastic surgeon in 2026

Usually no, not as a first marketing dollar in 2026. NewBeauty publishes no price for its Top Doctor program, and its own Find a Doctor directory shows 114 doctors across 26 states and Washington, DC, so you would be buying a seal and a seat in a small national directory with no published audience figure behind either. Google Business Profile is free, and RealSelf says on its advertising page that 5.2 million consumers have connected directly with providers on its platform.

That does not make NewBeauty a bad buy. It makes it a brand purchase that belongs after the free and measurable channels are finished. The magazine itself has changed hands: MJH Life Sciences, the medical media company behind Dermatology Times, announced on May 6, 2025 that it had acquired NewBeauty from SANDOW, and NewBeauty’s About page says the magazine is published quarterly. Below is what the program includes on paper, what nobody publishes, and how it compares with RealSelf, Healthgrades, Zocdoc, Vitals, Yelp and earned coverage in Allure.

What does NewBeauty actually sell to plastic surgeons?

NewBeauty sells one doctor program on its own site: NewBeauty Top Doctors. The Become a Top Doctor page lists four groups of benefits and ends with a form to “find out if you qualify.” Advertising is a separate sale, handled through an inquiry form that lists an MJH Life Sciences address.

Here is what NewBeauty’s own page says a Top Doctor receives, grouped the way the page groups it.

1. Recognition and the seal

The page calls the program an “Award of Excellence” and promises a “NewBeauty Top Doctor Seal of distinction” for your marketing materials, plus digital badges and window decals. This is a credential you show people who already found you. On its own, it does not put your name in front of anyone new.

2. A priority directory listing

Members get “a priority listing on our online directory.” That directory currently shows 114 doctors, filterable by state, by specialty (plastic surgeon, facial plastic surgeon, oculoplastic surgeon, dermatologist, cosmetic dentist, hair restoration specialist) and by treatment area. Ad units labeled “Advertisement” sit between listings. NewBeauty does not publish how many people use the directory, in total or by city.

3. Marketing services

The page lists “advanced SEO optimization,” “strategic digital advertising campaigns” and social posts that share your story through NewBeauty’s channels. It does not say how many posts, which accounts, how much ad spend, or what reporting you receive.

4. Network and events

The last group is an “Elite Network” of peers, collaborations and cross promotions, and access to webinars, workshops and conferences. No schedule, member count or event list is published.

One detail worth noticing: the page describes membership as “being invited to join our elite network,” while the entry point is a qualification form. It does not say whether a fee applies.

Does NewBeauty publish a price for its Top Doctor program?

No. Neither the Become a Top Doctor page nor the Advertising page lists a fee, a contract term or a rate card. So the only fair comparison is on scope, and the only way to get a price is to request it in writing.

That puts NewBeauty in crowded company. Very few platforms in this category publish surgeon pricing:

  • RealSelf lists no prices on its advertising page and tells providers to “contact a RealSelf advisor.”
  • Healthgrades lets you claim a free profile, but its business site offers a contact form rather than prices for Sponsored Profiles or upgrades.
  • Zocdoc publishes the structure but not the amount. Its provider help center says there are no upfront fees or subscription costs to join, that a one-time fee applies to each new patient “discovery” booking, and that the fee varies by specialty and location. The fee applies at booking even if the patient later cancels or does not show, with limited exceptions.
  • Yelp prices ads by auction. Its 2025 annual report on Form 10-K says average cost per click rose 10 percent in 2025 while ad clicks fell 7 percent.
  • Google Business Profile is free. Google’s own page says creating a profile and listing your business is free.

The missing price is not what separates NewBeauty. The missing audience number is. RealSelf publishes 5.2 million connected consumers, 2.5 million newsletter subscribers and more than 540,000 social followers on its advertising page. Those are vendor claims, not audited figures, but they give you something to hold the vendor to. NewBeauty’s doctor pages publish no traffic, readership or follower figure we could find.

How does NewBeauty compare with RealSelf, Google and the directories?

NewBeauty is the only option in this set that sells a magazine brand’s seal. The others sell either reach on a patient research platform, bookings, or clicks. Google Business Profile wins on cost, RealSelf on published cosmetic audience, and Zocdoc on pay only when a booking happens.

Is a NewBeauty Top Doctor seal the same as being quoted in NewBeauty?

No. Being quoted is editorial, and the Top Doctor program is a marketing program. NewBeauty’s About page says the doctors quoted in its magazine and online are checked to be board-certified, practicing within scope, reputable and ethical, and that only facial plastic surgeons, plastic surgeons and oculoplastic surgeons are quoted on surgical content.

The same page says all Top Doctors are peer-reviewed and vetted. Neither statement says a Top Doctor gets quoted in stories. Ask the rep directly whether membership has any connection to editorial selection, and get the answer in writing. A reputable publication keeps the two apart, and you want to know where the line sits before you pay.

Editorial quotes come from editors looking for sources on a story they already plan to run. That is the same route into Allure, Harper’s Bazaar and the rest of the beauty press, and it costs time rather than a fee. Our guide on how cosmetic surgeons land beauty and lifestyle press walks through the request platforms and pitch timing.

One thing we have not tested: whether ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI Mode cite a NewBeauty directory profile more or less often than a NewBeauty article that quotes a surgeon. NewBeauty does not publish data on it, and we have not measured it, so treat any claim either way as unproven.

Who should say yes to NewBeauty, and who should pass?

Say yes only when the free channels are finished and the seal has a job to do. A practice with a complete Google Business Profile, a claimed RealSelf profile, a steady review flow and a national or destination patient base can use a magazine seal on its site and in consult materials. A practice still building its first patient base should pass.

Signs it can fit:

  • Patients travel to you from other states, so a national brand name carries more weight than a local listing.
  • You already have a brand budget line separate from patient acquisition spend.
  • NewBeauty will give you a written scope covering post counts, ad spend and reporting.

Signs to pass:

  • Most new consults come from people searching Maps within a few miles.
  • You can afford one paid channel this year, not two.
  • The rep cannot or will not name a price, a term and a cancellation process.

The ownership change matters here too. Terms a colleague signed with NewBeauty under SANDOW before May 2025 may not match what MJH Life Sciences offers now, so ask for the current contract rather than relying on a peer’s experience.

If the goal behind the spend is to be the surgeon AI assistants name when a patient asks about a procedure in your city, that is a different job from buying a seal. That is the work Subscribe PR does for practices, described on our AEO for plastic surgeons page.

How do you tell whether NewBeauty paid off?

Decide the test before you sign. Ask NewBeauty for a tracked link on your directory profile and in any social post, put a dedicated call tracking number on the profile if it allows one, and add “how did you hear about us” to your intake form. Then count consults that trace back to NewBeauty over the full term.

Ask these questions before signing:

  1. What is the price, the term, and does it renew automatically?
  2. How many doctors in your specialty does NewBeauty list in your city or state?
  3. How many social posts, on which accounts, and how much ad spend goes into the “digital advertising campaigns”?
  4. What monthly reporting do you receive: profile views, clicks to your site, calls?
  5. Can you keep using the seal after you cancel?

Compare the answers with what a free Google Business Profile and a RealSelf profile already deliver. If the NewBeauty proposal cannot show a number you can check, you are paying for prestige. That can be a fine decision, as long as you make it knowingly.

FAQ

Do doctors pay to be NewBeauty Top Doctors?

NewBeauty’s Become a Top Doctor page does not say. It describes membership as an invitation, lists marketing benefits such as a priority directory listing, SEO work, digital advertising campaigns and social posts, and ends with a form to find out if you qualify. No fee, term or rate card appears on the page. Ask the rep for the price and contract terms in writing before you agree to anything.

Is the NewBeauty Top Doctor seal legitimate?

NewBeauty says on its About page that all Top Doctors are peer-reviewed and vetted to confirm their training and qualifications. It does not publish the review criteria or who conducts the review. The seal comes from a real national beauty magazine now owned by MJH Life Sciences, so it carries brand recognition. Verify your own board certification separately on your site, because patients can check that directly.

How many NewBeauty Top Doctors are there?

NewBeauty’s Find a Doctor directory showed 114 doctors when we checked in October 2026, across 26 states, Washington, DC and a telemedicine filter. The directory includes plastic surgeons, facial plastic surgeons, oculoplastic surgeons, dermatologists, cosmetic dentists and hair restoration specialists. That small size means less competition inside the directory, but NewBeauty does not publish how many people search it.

Who owns NewBeauty now?

MJH Life Sciences, a medical media company that also publishes Dermatology Times, announced on May 6, 2025 that it had acquired NewBeauty from SANDOW. Terms were not disclosed. NewBeauty’s site now lists MJH addresses in New Jersey, and its About page says the magazine is published quarterly. If you signed with NewBeauty before the sale, request the current terms before you renew.

Is NewBeauty better than RealSelf for a plastic surgeon?

They do different jobs. RealSelf is a patient research platform that publishes audience claims, including 5.2 million consumers connected with providers and 2.5 million newsletter subscribers, and sells a Verified badge, profile upgrades and placements. NewBeauty sells a magazine brand’s seal and a spot in a 114 doctor directory with no published audience figure. For most cosmetic practices, RealSelf is the better first paid test.

Can I get into NewBeauty magazine without paying?

Yes. Editorial quotes are earned, not bought. NewBeauty says it quotes board-certified doctors practicing within scope, and only plastic, facial plastic and oculoplastic surgeons on surgical topics. Editors find sources through pitches, request platforms and relationships, the same route that leads to Allure and other beauty titles. It costs time or a publicist’s fee, and you cannot control when or whether a story runs.

The short answer

NewBeauty sells prestige, and prestige is hard to count. The Top Doctor program offers a seal, a priority listing in a 114 doctor directory and some marketing help, with no published price and no published audience. Google Business Profile is free, Zocdoc charges only per new patient booking, and RealSelf at least publishes how many consumers it reaches. Buy NewBeauty last, buy it in writing, and buy it only if you know how you will count the consults it sends.
